OCTA’s Freeway & Grade Separation Programs

- $5 Billion in Projects Underway

Presented by Rose Casey,

the new Highway Program Director of OCTA

Grade separations improve traffic flow and safety on our streets. They are road structures, including overpasses and underpasses, that separate car traffic from train traffic, eliminating the need for commuters and commercial vehicles to stop, idle and waste time at railroad crossings as seemingly endless freight trains pass-by.

When these grade separation projects are completed:

      • Commuters will be able to safely and efficiently go over - or under trains - rather than being stuck on the wrong side of the tracks.
      • First responders will no longer need to contend with long trains in case of emergencies.
      • Commercial vehicles will be able to deliver and/or pick-up goods and products without encountering delays at railroad crossings.
      • Long lines of idling cars and trucks at railroad crossings will be significantly reduced, if not eliminated
